Clara Faisst was born in Karlsruhe, Baden. Her father died when she was 1. She was the youngest of six children. As a child, she was quiet and dreamy. She suffered from poor health throughout her childhood.
We begin with her work Praeludium im gotischen Stil Op.28 and the link to download the score.
Her musical education began when she entered the Grand Ducal Conservatory in Karlsruhe. At age 7, she was the youngest student of concertmaster Carl Will. She continued her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Berlin. At that academy, she had many prestigious teachers, most famously Max Bruch, with whom she studied composition and maintained a correspondence with for most of her life. She composed five lieder, Op. 3, dedicated to Max Bruch, of which I haven't found a video, but I have found a score.
And a video of another lieder that I did find with sheet music.
Upon graduating in 1896, she began an extensive concert tour of her own music throughout Germany and Switzerland. She made a living as a composer, teacher, poet, and pianist. Her works and performances gained public attention. Her vocal and instrumental works were publicly performed during World War II. Her music is described as containing highly expressive melodies and late Romantic harmony.
I'm sharing her Melodie for cello and piano. There's no sheet music.
Faisst was a prolific composer, producing nearly hundreds of works, including ballads, choral music, and sonatas for violin and piano.
Faisst never married and died in Karlsruhe at the age of 76. Since she had no family, her possessions ended up in the trash, but some of her letters and music were rescued and preserved.
Here is Stucke for cello with a link to the score.
There's a lot of music on the IMSLP website, but I didn't find many videos of the pieces. I hope someone gets interested and performs more of it :)
Here is all the music I found
