Dora Pejačević (1885-1923) Croatia

She is considered one of Croatia's leading composers. She wrote around 106 works, mostly in the late Romantic style, including piano pieces, chamber music, songs, and orchestral works. Her Symphony in F# minor is considered the first modern symphony in Croatian music. Listen to it below; no score :(




Dora began composing when she was 12. She studied music privately in Zagreb, Dresden, and Munich. She took classes in instrumentation, composition, and violin, but was largely self-taught.
