She was born in Bucharest. She studied at the Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory, now the National University of Music in Bucharest, with Tudor Ciortea and Tiberiu Olah, and attended the Darmstadt composition courses for several years. She earned a doctorate in musicology and taught composition, orchestration, and analysis at the Conservatory from 1971 until her death in 2011. She has written around 100 works.
I begin by sharing 3 of her Symphonies, all with a link to download the score.
Alexandra married Romanian composer and cellist Serban Nichifor in 1978. They formed the Duo Intermedia and co-directed the Nuova Musica Consonante - Living Music Foundation Festival.
I'm sharing her Fantasia for cello and piano with a link to the score. The video below is of the Intermedia Duo, her and his husband playing her piece. <3<3<3
Liana Alexandra wrote nine symphonies, concertos for clarinet, flute, viola, piano, saxophone, and organ, three operas, and a large body of chamber music. She died of a cerebral hemorrhage in January 2011. (There's tons of her music on the IMSLP website! Go check it out!).
Here is Images interrupted, for wind quintet, and below is the link to see the score.
And finally, her Concerto for flute, viola and chamber orchestra.
There are 117 works available for download at IMSLP. GO!
