Composer, teacher, and mezzo-soprano of Spanish descent. Younger sister of María Malibrán (a composer who also appears on this blog). At 16, she made her debut as a pianist, giving her first concert in Brussels.
Here are her 2 piano pieces, and here is also the link to download the score.
Pauline had a successful singing career, which took her to the finest venues in Europe, and between 1843 and 1846 she was permanently associated with the St. Petersburg Opera in Russia. She composed many songs, including her Lament "My Beautiful Friend Is Dead," VWV 1139, which I share below, along with a link to download the sheet music.
Viardot began composing when she was young, but never intended to become a composer. Her works were primarily written as private pieces for her students, intended to develop their vocal abilities. However, her works were of professional quality. These include her 6 Morceaux, VWV 3003, for piano and violin, with a link to download the score.
