Due to a case of identity confusion, some people believe that she and composer Raffaella Aleotta were actually the same person, and that Vittoria changed her name when she entered the San Vito Convent in Ferrara, famous for fostering musical talent, which she entered at the age of 14. Aleotti enjoyed complex music and often used harmonic dissonances to emphasize the text. This characteristic led to criticism, as some felt that as the music became more complex with the use of more voices, the sanctity of the music was displaced by its pleasure.
